Andalusia | Semana Santa and Easter will be normal this year, promises the Junta de Andalucía
Vice President Juan Marín says Semana Santa processions, previously canceled due to the pandemic, will continue this year
Andalusia’s famous Semana Santa processions will continue this year after being canceled for two consecutive years due to coronavirus restrictions.
The renowned religious events will take place during Holy Week from April 10 to April 17, 2022.
“There will be Easter,” junta vice president and tourism minister Juan Marín said on January 10. Some events will also be shown at the Andalusian Pavilion at the International Tourism Fair of Spain (Fitur) in Madrid.
“We will continue to celebrate, as we did with the cavalcades of the Three Kings, always taking precautions. Perhaps the brotherhoods will have to change or adapt parts of their traditional routes to avoid certain streets, but we are convinced that everything can be done in complete normality,” he said.
Easter marks the end of low season for the tourism sector and is often seen as a barometer of high season. Convinced of the importance of Semana Santa for the regional tourism sector, Marín added: “This year we will not be without it”.
