Ex-pirate left for a normal life killed in Cox’s Bazar


A hacker, who surrendered to the Minister of the Interior in 2019 to resume a normal life, was killed with an ax on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Alauddin, 30, son of Mohammad Ledu of the Kalarmarchhara union in Moheskhali.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. in the para office of the Kalarmarchhara union in Cox’s Bazar, the officer in charge of the Moheskhali (OC) police station Abdul Hai confirmed.

According to local sources, a group of criminals fatally stabbed Alauddin and escaped the scene, leaving him seriously injured. Later, residents rescued him and took him to Badarkhali General Hospital in Chakaria for first aid.

He was then referred to Chittagong Medical College (CMC) hospital for better treatment, but breathed his last on the way to the hospital.

Meanwhile, news of his death sparked chaos in the Chhamiraghona area, with three houses looted and set on fire.

“Alauddin was killed for establishing supremacy and old animosities, as a result of which some people set three houses on fire,” OC Abdul Hai said, adding that police and two fire brigades rushed to up and got the situation under control.

He said legal action would be taken against those involved in the murder and vandalism.

On October 18 last year, former Jubo League vice-president Ruhul Quader Rubel was shot and killed by his opponents for the same reason.
