Mangaluru: St Agnes College Postgraduate Department of Psychology Celebrates Mental Health Day

Mangaluru, October 19: On October 10, the world celebrates Mental Health Day and this year’s theme was “Mental Health in a Unequal World”. The Postgraduate Department of Psychology has launched a “1: 10-Each One Reach Ten” campaign.

Staff and students in the Postgraduate Department of Psychology at St Agnes College have taken it upon themselves to declutter the stigma associated with mental health and to publicize the touted subject. The students were determined to stay true to the theme and go to rural areas and spread awareness about mental health. The department also decided that per student, the awareness would be disseminated to at least ten people, or 1:10.

The II MSc Psychology students offered a module on mental health awareness, where they addressed issues such as “What is health”, “What is mental health”, ” Why Mental Health Matters ”,“ What Are Mental Health Problems ”,“ How To Deal With Minor Mental Health Problems At The Individual Level ”, And They Also Covered“ Mental Health Acts ”As Well As“ How To Benefit From It. different mental health services ”.

Each student meticulously took responsibility, the students in the department tried to reach different groups through offline and online mode.

While few students did sessions online, few continued to do sessions offline; a group of students participated in a session for the inhabitants of the village of Hejamadi. A student from Bangalore attended a cowherd session in a rural area of ​​Bangalore. A few students attended a session for graduate and postgraduate students at Catholicate College in Pathanamithitta, Kerala. Another group of students held a session among family and friends in online mode, with participants from Dubai and Qatar. The 36 students took part in sessions for different groups at different locations.

Faculty members of the department also participated in the mental health awareness campaign. Deepa Kotari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology led the awareness program at the Agnesian Toastmasters Club on the topic of emotional first aid; She also, in collaboration with the Department for the Protection of Women and Children of the Mangaluru District, organized a mental health awareness session for 50 Anganwadi teachers in the Mangaluru region.

Ashwini, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, organized a session for rural women on “Women and Mental Health” at Anganwadi Kendra, Devi Nagar Talapadi. Della Corderio, Assistant Professor of Psychology, organized a thematic meeting on “Mind Matters” as part of the awareness campaign.

The campaign began on October 10 and ended on October 18. In total, the campaign reached over 1,000 beneficiaries thanks to the 1:10 EACH ONE REACH TEN campaign. The department’s HOD, Dr Premanand, and other faculty members guided the students in designing and delivering a framework for the outreach module.
